Bio

My name is Lauren Brenner. I am currently a 3rd year BFA student in The Ohio State University Department of Dance with an emphasis on arts entreprenuership. I was born and raised in beautiful San Diego, California.

I began dancing in 2002 at the age of 3 at a local dance studio, Royal Dance Academy. I trained in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Musical Theater, and Hip Hop. I also trained for several years in the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Ballet system, completing all of the RAD examinations with distinction. I started participating in competitive dance in 2010. In 2013,  I chose to attend a performing arts high school, Canyon Crest Academy (CCA), in order to begin conservatory dance training. I was in the school’s Dance Conservatory for 4 years and performed in numerous shows.

At that time I also began training at Danceology Performing Arts Campus in order to further my training and expand my experience in various types of dance. There I had the opportunity to train and work with a variety of well-known choreographers such as Travis Wall, Andrew Winghart, Teddy Forance, Kayla Kalbfleisch, and Nick Lazzarini. I also had the opportunity to participate in numerous workshops, master classes, and summer intensives.

During my senior year of high school at CCA, I was selected to present a Senior Thesis. This was a special time for me because I was able to create a work from start to finish - including selecting the theme, cast, costumes, music, set the choreography, determine the lighting, sound, props, budget, and advertising - and be able to see my vision become a reality.  I loved and embraced the process!

I have always dreamed of dancing in college and beyond. The Ohio State University Department of Dance is helping me realize and expand my knowledge, technique, creativity, maturity, and my dreams. I’m excited for the up coming years and look forward to continued growth and exploration into my future in dance as a career.

Artist State

Artist Statement

I am studying dance for a number of reasons. Dance has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Dance has always been my “sport”, as well as my “art”. It gives me strength, confidence, is my outlet for stress, and motivates me to better myself everyday. I am happier when I am doing anything related to dance.

I am continuously evolving as a dancer and embrace growth and change. Prior to coming to Ohio State and studying in the Department of Dance, I had minimal exposure to true “study” of body movement, other than to perfect a specific turn, leap, or specific choreography. The BFA program has exposed me to the true “study” of dance and movement, therefore taking my dance education into a new realm.

I plan to combine my dance education with a minor in communications/public relations or arts management. My goals immediately after completion of my BFA are to dance in a performance dance company, choreograph performances, and ultimately become an artistic director of a dance company or school. I realize that these goals are fluid and am open to exploring options over my next 4 years here at Ohio State.
